    I’d be interested to know how many of those 28 two dB positions you actually use on a daily basis.

    My preamp, a 5687 WOT (Lundahl LL1660/10mA) has a 12 position, two deck rotary switch for resistors with 3dB per step and I never use more than six positions…which tells me I’ve been wasting my time.

    Which tells me that there’s lots of wasted positions.

    Having done about 128 +- solder joints, what do you think about what you’ve created?

    1. Valid point Robert. In normal listening conditions, you don’t need all these steps. However, sometimes you do. The AVC is a step improvement from a stepped-resistor solution in my opinion. Regardless of steps though. I believe Slagle offers some interesting options these days.
